Quality, Speed, and Price. Choose 3?

Nyla Batts Smith - Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Nope, pick two. You may have heard it before; it's certainly not a new concept. (There are plenty of variations floating about: quality, time, money; quality, service, cost; good, fast, cheap..it's all the same.) But I often find myself explaining to clients that as much as I would love to provide top-notch stellar quality at lightning-fast speed at the lowest rock-bottom price, I can't. Nobody can, without sacrificing something themselves. Between quality, speed, and price, you're going to have to pick two to optimize. Gosh, life is just full of tough decisions, isn't it? Let's look at "a day in the life of Jane" to illustrate this point. More

A little background, a little history...

    Who is n•Vision?

N•Vision Designs is a small (read: one-woman) design company in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Along with my sidekick, Cecil J, we run this joint.

    What do you do?

    A few things. I:

    1. Make your website work for you.
    2. Make marketing pieces that attract people to you.
    3. Make an impact in the lives of your customers.
    4. Make you look good.

    Let's get personal:

A Carolina girl at heart, I didn't let a five-year stint in New Jersey squelch my Southern hospitality. And yet, with a pioneering spirit, I ventured to the Midwest to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications from Washington University in St. Louis with a double minor in Business and Psychology. Before starting n•Vision Designs, I worked in Missouri as a freelance designer and production artist, and an instructor at Sanford-Brown College. I relocated to Virginia to work as the Senior Graphic Designer for Morgan Communications Media, Inc., and was later employed as the Web and Graphic Designer for ProActivIT, an IT company in Yorktown, VA.

I've worked with start-up businesses and established entities, done small-scale work and large-scale projects. I've worked for large companies and for small companies and for myself. I love it all. And through it all: studying the art of communication.

Well, that's not very personal...who are you, really?

Okay, if you must know. My name is Nyla. I am daily entertained by a cat named Fievel and a lively African Grey Parrot who's favorite phrases are "Be quiet, bird" and "bad kitty"...(sigh). I do enjoy animals and find it fascinating how many lessons can be observed from them. I also enjoy making jewelry and doing logic puzzles. You will often find me with a big mug of hot tea, especially in the wintertime.  I am a Christian and believe in doing everything with integrity. Past my obvious passion for design, see the links at the bottom of the page or here for more of what rocks my world.
